Hong Kong Fire
Late November 2025
Late November 2025
Based on the reports from the recent fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po (late November 2025), no, the high-rise buildings did not collapse.
While the visual footage and reports described the towers as being "fully in flames," the structural integrity of the buildings remained intact. Here is the distinction regarding what collapsed:
Scaffolding Collapsed: The buildings were undergoing renovation and were covered in bamboo scaffolding and protective netting. This external layer (along with flammable foam panels) is what was engulfed in flames and subsequently collapsed, creating the dramatic and terrifying visuals of the "building" falling apart.
Buildings Stood: The concrete structures of the seven affected towers remained standing and were deemed structurally sound enough for firefighters and search teams to enter for rescue and recovery operations, though they are described as "charred skeletons" with extensive internal and external damage.
Note: Referring to the viral videos of the "tower of fire" in Tsim Sha Tsui (the Middle Road construction site fire), that event occurred in March 2023. In that case as well, the building did not collapse; the flames were primarily consuming the bamboo scaffolding and construction materials.
